Abstract
With the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the disruption of many equations in various fields of national security, anti-government forces took action to undermine national interests and goals in some border provinces and cities through political and military operations, resulting in a significant reduction in security in these border provinces. Despite the central government's efforts, not only was there no improvement in this regard, but insecurity continued to increase day by day, necessitating the deployment of the army to establish and maintain security. The army was deployed in the border provinces based on assigned missions and successfully established security through its prominent role and performance. The main objective of this article is to examine and analyze the performance of the army based on the roles played in ensuring security in the border provinces of Iran, with a focus on the provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Khuzestan during the years 1980 to 1979. The research population consisted of qualitative and quantitative phases, including the study of relevant documents and research, as well as experts from the organization with targeted selection. The data collection methods included library research, document study, expert meetings, interviews, and questionnaire distribution. The preliminary test was used to assess the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. The interview questions were open-ended and closed-ended, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated to be 0.919. The analysis was conducted qualitatively using content analysis, and quantitatively using descriptive and inferential methods with the help of SPSS. The findings were obtained through comparison and judgment: The army, influenced by 3 highly important roles, had 9 very good performances in strategic levels to establish security in the four border provinces.
